Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index prolonged losing momentum to six straight days, plunging to the lowest level in the past seven months on May 19 as investors continued to dump shares amid bearish market.
The gauge of 284 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange crumbled 2.21 percent, or 10.06 points, to close at 444.85 points.
On the benchmark, 51 stocks climbed, 164 fell, while 74 remained unchanged.
Trading on the city bourse dropped by 11 percent in volume and 8 percent in value over the previous trading session as 25.5 million shares changed hands at a value of VND492 billion.
Vietnam Commercial Joint Stock Export Import Bank or Eximbank (EIB) won the spot of most active share by volume with 1.08 million shares changing hands.
Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI), the country’s largest brokerage, took the second place with 1.06 million shares changing hands.
Hoang Anh Gia Lai Joint Stock Company (HAG) came in third with 1.02 million shares traded.
Tien Len Steel Group Joint Stock Company (TLH) smashed 15.48 percent to close at VND7,100. Ms. Pham Thi Mai, sister of Ms. Pham Thi Hong, general director of the company registered to sell all 52,500 shares from May 20 to July 20 for personal financial need.
Vietnam – Italy Steel Joint Stock Company (VIS) declined for four consecutive days, sinking 5 percent to VND19,000.
Godaco Seafood Joint Stock Company (AGD) subsided 4.92 percent to VND17,400 after treading water for four days in a row.
Cuu Long Petro Urban Development & Investment Corporation (CCL) and Everpia Vietnam Joint Stock Company (EVE) both strengthened 5 percent to VND12,600 and VND39,900 respectively.
Tu Liem Urban Development Joint Stock Copany (NTL) snapped its six-straight-day losing streak, growing up 4.92 percent to VND46,900.
Tây Bắc Minerals Investment Joint Stock Company (KTB) rebounded the first time in four days, reviving 4.85 percent to close at VND21,600.
The Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller in the north extended its losing run to eight consecutive trading sessions, shelved 0.79 percent, or 0.62 points, to close at 78.24 points. Trading volume sharply fell over the previous trading session as 23.1 million shares worth VND284.3 billion changed hands.
Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares rose 0.24 points to 34.02 points this morning. A total of 151,600 shares changed hands at a value of VND1.63 billion.
