Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index declined for five consecutive trading sessions on August 12 as rising uncertainties urged most investors to cut holdings to avert risks.
The shares of 295 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange slid 0.14 percent, or 0.52 points, to close at 383.92 points. The gauge gave up 4.2 percent this week.
Of the index, there were 148 gainers, 64 losers, while 88 stocks remained unchanged.
Trading on the city bourse slightly dropped in volume and 10 percent in value over the previous trading session as 20.1 million shares changed hands at a value of VND360 billion.
Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI), the country’s largest brokerage, won the position of most active share in volume with 707,770 shares changing hands.
Thuan Thao Corporation (GTT) advanced to the second rank with 700,130 shares traded.
Société De Bourbon Tay Ninh (SBT) came next with 541,550 shares.
OPC Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company (OPC) sank for the fifth day, slumping 33.05 percent to VND23,500.
Ben Tre Aquaproduct Import and Export Joint Stock Company (ABT) and Telecommunication Industry Electronics Joint Stock Company (TIE) contracted 5 percent to VND38,000, and VND7,600 respectively.
Vietnam Fumigation Joint Stock Company (VFG) dropped for three straight trading sessions, losing 4.99 percent to VND34,300.
Hoang Long Group (HLG), Mekophar Chemical Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company (MKP), and Savimex Corporation (SAV) enhanced 5 percent to VND10,500, VND44,100, and VND18,900 respectively.
Dong A Plastic Joint Stock Company (DAG) capped its three-day losing run, edging up 4.96 percent to VND12,700.
Dong Phu Rubber Joint Stock Company (DPR) recovered 4.9 percent to VND53,500.
Meanwhile, the Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north reversed 0.3 percent, or 0.2 points, to finish at 66.02 points. Trading fell by 9 percent in volume and 11.5 percent in value over the previous day as more than 19 million shares changed hands at a value of VND179.54 billion.
The UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares trimmed 0.51 percent, or 0.16 points, to 31.24 points. A total of 222,275 shares changed hands at a value of VND2.58 billion as of 2:45 pm local time.
