Vietnamese students win two gold, silver medals at 2014 Int’l Chemistry Olympiad

A closing ceremony of the 46th International Chemistry Olympiad was held in Ha Noi on July 28, with the participation of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.

Vietnam’s delegation with eight members, including four students and four scientific observers, led by Nguyen Quoc Chinh, a lecture of the National University in Ho Chi Minh City.

Organization board said ten consolation prizes; 92 bronze, 63 silver and 28 gold medals were awarded to the contestants worldwide. .

As the final result, Vietnamese students won two gold and silver medals. Two silver medals went to Doan Quoc Hoai Nam from Quoc Hoc High School in Hue and Do Viet Hung from Tran Phu High School in Hai Phong. Meanwhile, two gold medals belonged to Pham Ngan Giang and Pham Mai Phuong from Amsterdam High School in Ha Noi.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Head of 2014 IChO’s Organising Committee Prof. Bui Duy Cam said that Vietnam- the hosted country held successfully the 46th International Chemistry Olympiad. Vietnam received the positive comments from international friends.

Through this contest, Vietnam has an opportunity to introduce culture and landscapes beauty to international friends.

Chairman of the IChO's Steering Committee Mr. Peter Wothers expressed his pleasure as international delegations those were received warmly welcome from Vietnamese people.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung sent his greetings to domestic and international delegations, scientists, teachers and students from 77 countries and territories worldwide participated in this year’s contest.

This is the first time that Vietnam held successfully the International Chemistry Olympiad. The contest aims to not only discover chemical talents but also promote the chemical science sector all over the world, affirmed the Prime Minister.

Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training and relevant agencies created the best conditions to support the students in this contest.

The 46th International Chemistry Olympiad attracted 524 international visitors, including 291 contestants from 77 countries and territories around the world.

Ministry of Education and Training will hold a press conference to announce the contest's final result and award medals for students in Ha Noi on July 29.

Azecbaijan will be the host country for the 47th International Chemistry Olympiad in 2015.

The 2013 International Chemistry Olympiad in Russia, Vietnam’s delegation won a gold medal and three silver medals.
