Vietnam’s quarantine authority decided to stop import of Australian fruits due to dangers from fruit fly discovered in some Australian fruits, said head of the Plant Protection Department Nguyen Xuan Hong.
Mr. Hong said that the country has imported 38 various kinds of fruits from Australia so far. However, Australia is facing fruit flies, a serious pest to home gardeners and fruit production industries alike, which attack and damage most kinds of summer fruits and some vegetables, as well as some ornamental and native plants.
The pest can cause spread to the local fruits, thus, the quarantine authority decided to stop importing since January 1, 2015.
The Plant Protection Department asserted that goods batches imported before will tighten control of the disease.
