Hanoi residents and Vietnamese nationwide will commemorate this month in memory of one of the key battles during the anti-US war - the ‘Hanoi-Dien Bien Phu in the air’ victory in 1972.
A film week began nationwide with the screening of ‘Hanoi-12 Days and Nights’ and ‘Memory of Time’ on December 13.
On the 40th anniversary of ‘Dien Bien Phu in the air Victory’, Vietnam Television will show documentary films on the historical event.
First to be shown will be the Russian-made film ‘Dance with Death’, a foreign documentary film with the participation of several witnesses in Vietnam, Russia and USA.
The story is simple but touching, describing the extreme hardships of the Soviet and Vietnamese soldiers in contrast to the lavish life of American air force soldiers.
Second to be shown will be a five part documentary film ‘Hanoi-Dien Bien Phu in the air’; a story told in pictures of the victory of the Vietnamese People's Army and the cruel carpet bombings on Hanoi, 40 years ago.
The movies show rare footage, once considered military secrets and now revealed, especially the secrets of missiles and Mic 21 fighters shooting down the American B-52.
The films unveiled a lot of new material from Russian, Belarus, Ukraine veterans as well as materials in archives of the Soviet Russian military museum recently transferred to Vietnam Television.
On this occasion, Vietnam Television also broadcast the Vietnamese cinema classic film ‘Little Girl of Hanoi’ by director Hai Ninh.
The film has won awards both locally and internationally such as the Golden Lotus prize at Vietnam Film Festival 1975, Special Award of the Jury Moscow International Film Festival in 1975.
Also on December 28, Vietnam Television in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense, Air Defense Air Force will hold a live TV program show on the historical event.
An exhibition opened in the capital city of Hanoi on December 11 to recall the heroic atmosphere of the 12 day-and-night battle against the US B-52 bombing of Hanoi in December 1972, the victory of which led to the end of the US ’ involvement in the war in Vietnam .
On display are nearly 100 valuable photographs and a number of documentaries highlighting the bravery and determination of resilient Hanoi people, in the fight to protect their skies during this treacherous battle.
The exhibition also dedicated a space to pictures of the present capital city, giving spectators a comparative view on the City’s huge changes 40 years after the war.
A range of campaigns have also been launched nationwide to remind younger generations of the significance of the victory, thus, encouraging them to live up to their predecessors’ heroic traditions and make further contributions to national development.
