Vietnam limits cash amount for travelers

Nguyen Van Binh, Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam, has signed a decision allowing any person travelling in and out of the country can carry a limit of US$5,000, after declaring it with customs.

The same will be applicable for individuals who carry other foreign currency in and out of the country.

Under the new regulations, a limit value of $5,000 plus cash value of VND 15 million is permissible.

However, any traveler carrying more than this amount, i.e. over US$5000 and VND 15 million in cash, must declare the amount with customs and receive a certificate of permission for carrying larger amounts.

The new directive is aimed at controlling excessive outbound cash flow.
