Vietnam will increase fines of food safety violations to deter people from committing the crime.
In his document to ministries, departments and local administrations, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam yesterday urged the Ministry of Health to remand the government’s decree to lift fines of food safety violation in an attempt to prevent people from violating the regulation.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Health should issue heavy fines on food safety violations and set new regulations on the biological and chemical pollution in food to replace the old one.
The Ministry of Health should liaise with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural development, People’s Committees in Hanoi and in Ho Chi Minh City, two big cities in the country, to review piloted food safety inspections last time. The ministries and people’s committees should have proposals after carrying out inspection. Piloted inspection should be conducted in more districts in the two big cities.
Meanwhile the ministries of Public Security, the National Defense, Industry and Trade, and people’s committee in border crossings should increase control to prevent smuggled food without clear indication of origin and providing training on food safety to employees.
