Averagely, two people reach the age of 60 every second or it means, every year the world welcomes around 58 million people over the age of 60. Vietnam has officially entered the aging phase of the population since 2011 with the rate of people over 60 years old of 10 percent of the whole population.
Local and international scientists predicted Vietnam’s aging population develops the fastest in the world. It is projected that by 2030, elderly Vietnamese people will be 19 million and over 28 million by 2050, respectively.
The aging population is not only a challenge for Vietnam but also an opportunity for enterprises to seize opportunities and contribute to socio-economic development, Deputy Minister of Health Pham Le Tuan said.
The seminar was as an opportunity for health managers, scientists, organizations and individuals to learn from each other’s experiences in battling non- communicable diseases, working out a map of the diseases in for elderly people in the region and recommendation for proper policies.
