Vietnam and ASEAN foster trade cooperation relations

The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ho Chi Minh City Branch (VCCI-HCM) yesterday held a seminar “Investment opportunities in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar”.

According to the VCCI-HCM, Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region currently is an attractive business and investment destination holding special position in the process of reform and development direction of Vietnam.

Vietnam always considers ASEAN countries as potential markets especially neighboring countries having a common land and maritime borders such as Laos, Cambodia, Thailand or emerging markets like Myanmar.

In trade field, Thailand is currently Vietnam's largest trading partner with the two-way trade turnover reaching US$ 17.5 billion in 2018, up 15 percent compared to 2017.

Accordingly, Vietnam mainly exports mobile phones and parts, computers, electronic products and components, textiles, crude oil and petro products, etc to the neighboring countries. The country imports input materials, machinery and equipment for production such as petro and oil, textile and garment and footwear materials, plastic and chemicals.

Experts said that the governments and enterprises should make more efforts in order to develop Vietnam- ASEAN relationship.
