VAC wants to build one more terminal in Tan Son Nhat Airport

Upgrade of Tan Son Nhat’s third terminal and other construction work have been mooted by the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) at the cost of VND11,400 billion ($490.1 million).

In its report of pre-feasibility of the third terminal project submitted to the Ministry of Transport, ACV analyzed the reality of the airport and need of new terminal construction.
According to the forecast, Tan Son Nhat Airport is expected to receive 45 million of passengers by 2025 whereas total capacity of two available terminal is able to receive 28 million a year.
Therefore, ACV proposed the new well-equipped terminal in the area of 100,000 square meter will be designed to receive 20 million travellers a year.
Additionally, ACV also put forward the plan to construct a runway, a two-lane path, a five-lane bridge and a parking lot. Total cost is estimated over VND11,430 billion ($490.1 million). ACV planned to call for public involvement in the project in the form of public-private partnership.
Once being approved the project will begin in the third quarter of 2020 and expected to complete in the second quarter of 2022.
Presently, the Ministry of Defense is transferring 16.7-hectare land to the Ministry of Transport for construction of the third terminal under the recently announced decision on adjusting the planning of the airport.
