USNS Mercy, a US Naval hospital ship, arrived at the Quy Nhon port in the central province of Binh Dinh on May 31 to conduct charitable medical activities.

The arrival of the 800-member ship is part of the “United States Pacific Partnership 2010” program.
During their stay from May 31 to June 12, sixty US doctors of the ship will coordinate with the province’s General Hospital and Eye Hospital in giving free health examinations and medical screening for patients.
Afterward, the doctors will allow certain screened patients to board the ship in order to necessary undergo surgical procedures.
US doctors will also repair and provide equipment for medical facilities and humanitarian centers in Quy Nhon City and Tuy Phuoc and An Nhon Districts.
They will also share professional knowledge and skill with doctors of the two aforementioned hospitals and other local ones, including Pulmonary Tuberculosis Hospital, Leprosy Hospital Quy Hoa and the Veterinarian Hospital.
Capt. Lisa Franchetti, commodore of the hospital ship, said the US Navy was willing to support its partners in improving medical skills and health infrastructure so that they can efficiently respond to natural disasters in the Asia-Pacific region.
