Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index climbed the most in two months on August 17 as local investors regained confidence after two days of gains.
The shares of 295 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange grew 1.81 percent, or 6.98 points, to close at 393.46 points.
Among the index members, there were 198 advancers, 40 decliners, while 62 stocks treaded water.
Trading volume on the city bourse improved rose more than two times higher than the previous trading session as 39.3 million shares changed hands at a value of VND896 billion, up 170 percent from a day earlier.
Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI), the country’s largest brokerage, took the spot of most active share in volume with 2.77 million shares changing hands.
It was followed by Tan Tao Investment & Technology Joint Stock Company (ITA) with 813,240 shares.
Saigon Thuong Tin Joint Stock Commercial Bank or Sacombank (STB), the fourth largest listed lender, finished third with 787,350 shares traded.
Food producer Basa Joint Stock Company (BAS) rocketed 5.26 percent to close at VND2,000.
Other winners on the southern trading floor included DIC Investment & Trading Joint Stock Company (DIC), Domesco Medical Import Export Joint Stock Corporation (DMC), and Viettronics Tan Binh Joint Stock Company (VTB).
Nui Nho Stone Corporation (NNC) slumped 9.86 percent to close at VND26,500. The company will pay dividends to its current shareholders in cash at a ratio of 30 percent, of which 25 percent is dividends for the first term of this year.
Rang Dong Light Source and Vacuum Flask Joint Stock Company (RAL) slashed 7.83 percent to close at VND15,300. The company’s current shareholders will receive dividends for the first term of this year in cash at a ratio of 15 percent on August 31.
Everpia Vietnam Joint Stock Company (EVE) tripped 4.95 percent to VND32,700.
Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north mounted 2.4 percent, or 1.58 points, to finish at 67.41 points. Trading volume was more than three times higher than that of the previous day as 50 million shares changed hands at a value of VND480 billion, up 200 percent.
Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares shrank 0.32 percent, or 0.1 points, to close at 30.88 points. A total of 89,350 shares changed hands at a value of VND501 million.
