“Street Knights” honored at awards ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City

Vietnamese citizens who have made outstanding contributions to the prevention of crime were honored at an awards ceremony for “Street Knights” at the Hoa Binh Theater in Ho Chi Minh City on October 2.

The “Street Knights” as they are called, came from different backgrounds, different parts of the country and from diverse job backgrounds, such as farm workers, motorbike taxi drivers and street vendors.

Nguyen Thanh Hai, head of the Phu Hoa Ward club for prevention and struggle against crime in Thu Dau Mot Town in Binh Duong Province, has more than 500 incidents to his credit and was honored with the 3rd class Feat of Arms Medal.

Nguyen Van Minh Tien, one of the most well known “Street Knights” in Ho Chi Minh City has caught hundreds of criminals in over 300 incidents during the last 15 years and also received many retaliation threats to his life as a result. He was honored with many certificates of merit for his brave acts that have left him with many physical scars. 

At the awards ceremony, Tien handed over VND100 million offered to the “Street Knights” by Petro Vietnam Fertilizer and Chemical Company, towards contribution of the construction of a building on Spratly (Truong Sa) Islands.

Others that were honored were Nguyen Van Hung from Hanoi, Tran Hue Hung from district 5 in Ho Chi Minh City, Tran Hoang Anh and Nguyen Xuan Chinh who died while attempting to capture a criminal.

Lieutenant General Huu Uoc, from the ministry of public security, praised the “Street Knights” of the country who have contributed towards maintaining law and order and bringing about peace and safety for the people.

In related news, a ceremony praising 55 indigenous Chinese Vietnamese youth coming from various fields such as culture, science and sports was held at the Cultural Center in district 11 by the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union on October 2.
