Stocks recoup on bargain hunting

The gauge of 305 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange retrieved 1.17 per cent, or 5.16 points, to close at 444.93 points, with 168 gainers, 71 losers, and 71 stocks remaining unchanged.

Trading on the city bourse improved by 21.5 per cent in volume, and 39.4 per cent in value over the previous trading session as 61.59 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND909.61 billion.

Vietnam Commercial Joint Stock Export Import Bank (EIB) led the list of most active shares in volume with 3.87 million shares changing hands.

Sacombank Securities Joint Stock Company (SBS) followed with 3.67 million shares.

Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI), the country’s largest brokerage, came in third with 3.4 million shares traded.

Domesco Medical Import Export Joint Stock Corporation (DMC) and Hai Van Cement Joint Stock Company (HVX) both resurrected 5 per cent to close at VND31,500 and VND4,200 respectively.

OPC Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company (OPC) grew 4.98 per cent to close at VND33,700.

Cuong Thuan IDICO Development Investment Corporation (CTI) restored 4.96 per cent to close at VND14,800.

Phuong Nam Cultural Joint Stock Corporation (PNC) dipped 5 per cent to close at VND5,700.

Saigon Cable Corporation (CSG) fell 4.94 per cent to close at VND7,700.

Hoi An Tourist Service Joint Stock Company (HOT) deleted 4.83 per cent to close at VND25,600.

The VN30 Index - a free-float adjusted, market cap-weighted index of 30 stocks with the highest market value and liquidity on the exchange – regained 7.07 points, or 1.41 per cent, to end at 507.35. Among its 30 members, 24 stocks advanced, 1 retreated and 5 remained unmoved.

Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north rocketed 2.14 per cent, or 1.57 points, to close at 74.82 points, with 178 winners, 92 losers, and 52 stocks treading water. More than 80.78 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND783.33 billion.

Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares went down 0.71 per cent, or 0.25 points, to close at 34.85 points. A total of 2,215,015 shares changed hands at VND7.21 billion.
