Stocks maintain on rising trend

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index advanced for four consecutive trading sessions on May 4 with support mainly from foreign investors.

The shares of 284 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange accelerated 1.35 percent, or 6.5 points, to close at 485.58 points.

Among the index members, 115 gained, 98 retreated, while 76 remained unchanged.

Trading on the city bourse fell by 16 percent in volume and 7 percent in value over the previous trading session as 21.2 million shares changed hands at a value of VND584 billion.

Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI), the country’s largest brokerage, won the position of most active share in volume with 1.21 million shares changing hands.

Vietnam Commercial Joint Stock Export Import Bank or Eximbank (EIB) followed with 627,610 shares changing hands.

Thuan Thao Corporation (GTT) came in third with 529,330 shares.

Dong Thap Trading Corporation (FDG) rebounded 4.97 percent to close at VND19,000.

HUD3 Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company (HU3) capped its three days losing streak, recovering 4.96 percent to VND14,800.

Ho Chi Minh City Infrastructure Investment Joint Stock Company (CII) emerged 4.92 percent to VND34,100.

Losers on the southern trading floor included Nam Viet Joint Stock Company (NAV), Post & Telecommunications Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company (PTC), and Sao Vang Rubber Joint Stock Company (SRC). They all slashed the daily maximum allowed limit of 5 percent to VND7,600, VND13,300, and VND22,800 respectively.

Descon Construction Corporation (DCC) and Sacombank Securities Joint Stock Company (SBS) sank 4.96 percent to VND23,000 and VND11,500 respectively.

The Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller in the north subtracted 0.47 percent, or 0.39 points, to close at 83.19 points. Trading volume severely dropped over the previous trading session as 19.6 million shares worth VND260.7 billion changed hands.

Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares slid 0.1 points to 35.53 points this morning. A total of 56,500 shares changed hands at a value of VND370 million.
