Stocks climb on bullish sentiment

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index kicked off week in light note on March 21 as most blue-chip stocks rallied on regained confidence.

The gauge of 282 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange surged 1.56 percent, or 7.17 points, to wrap week at 468.25 points.

Among the index members, 150 increased, 71 dropped, while 66 remained unchanged.

Trading on the city bourse fell by 22 percent in volume and 34 percent in value over the previous trading session as 41.8 million shares changed hands at a value of VND868 billion.

Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI), the country’s largest brokerage, won the spot of most active share in volume with 2.4 million shares changing hands.

Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industrial and Trade or Vietinbank (CTG) dropped to second rank with 1.61 million shares.

Saigon Thuong Tin Joint Stock Commercial Bank or Sacombank (STB) followed with 1.58 million shares.

Interfood Shareholding Company (IFS), Construction Joint Stock Company No 5 (SC5), and Vinacafé Bienhoa Joint Stock Company (VCF) were the biggest gainers on the city bourse today. They all sprang 5 percent to VND14,700, VND31,500, and VND46,200 respectively.

Cuu Long Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Corporation (DCL) enhanced 4.98 percent to VND25,300.

Hoang Anh Gia Lai Joint Stock Company (HAG), Hoang Long Group (HLG), and Sonadezi Long Thanh (SZL) all advanced 4.94 percent to VND46,700, VND8,500, and VND17,000 respectively.

DIC Investment & Trading Joint Stock Company (DIC) slashed 5.06 percent to close at VND15,000. The company will pay dividends for the year 2010 to its current shareholders at a ratio of 12 percent in cash since May 12.

Ngo Han Joint Stock Company (NHW) sank 4.81 percent to VND19,800 after treading water for four consecutive trading sessions.

Cuu Long Petro Urban Development & Investment Corporation (CCL) shrank for eleven straight days, giving up 4.65 percent to close at VND16,400.

The smaller in the north made a contrast performance as the Hanoi’s HNX-Index dipped 0.39 percent, or 0.37 points, to close at 94.84 points. Trading volume slightly dropped over the previous trading session as 44.5 million shares worth VND717.35 billion changed hands.

The UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares trimmed 0.26 points to 38.23. A total of 405,700 shares changed hands at a value of VND2.54 billion.
