State employees and workers will have longer public holidays in 2014 with the Prime Minister having approved a proposal of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs to swap holidays on weekdays to add to public holidays.

Accordingly, on Lunar New Year this year, state employees and workers will have nine days off from January 28 to February 5, but will have to work on January 25 and February 8 to compensate for two off days on February 4 and 5.

As for the Reunification Day and International Workers’ Day holidays, public servants will start their five-day holiday from April 30 to May 4 but will work on April 26 to compensate for a day off on May 2.

On Vietnamese National Day, state employees and workers will take a day off on September 1 then compensate for off day on September 6, which means they will have four days off starting August 30 to September 2.

The Prime Minister has entrusted the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs to announce the new schedule in public holidays in 2014 and asked government agencies that do not have off days on Saturdays and Sundays to make suitable adjustments for public holidays based on their working plan and operations.
