Six Vietnamese singers living in the USA have been officially banned from performing in Vietnam for slandering the country’s political affairs in a DVD, local officials stated yesterday, Feb 28.
The Department of Performing Arts under the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism will no longer allow singers Thanh Tuyen, Tuan Vu, Gia Huy, Manh Dinh and two comedians Quang Minh and Hong Dao perform in any shows in Vietnam. The decision doe not make clear how long the ban will last.
Previously, the above-mentioned artists were charged of agitating people against Vietnam government in the DVD Asia 69-71, produced by Asia Music Corp. & Asia Entertainment Inc., a music company controlled by a group of Vietnamese origin US citizens in the USA.
The local singers who made an appearance in the DVD will also be disciplined, officials said.
They asserted that anyone who have expressed negative views about the country, thus violating Vietnamese law will be banned from performing in the country. Furthermore, the Department of Performing Arts has asked authorities nation -wide to confiscate all these DVDs and then destroy them.
The HCM City People’s Committee had previously instructed its agencies to stringently penalize the circulation and duplication of the DVD and persuade people not to buy products made by Asia Entertainment Inc. which was founded in 1981.
All of Asia Entertainment Inc DVDs being circulated in Vietnam are duplicated and sold illegally.
