Rail transport fees to increase

The Vietnam Railway Corporation has announced an extra 7 percent increase on goods transport fees from March 6.

The corporation is also awaiting an approval from the Price Management Department under the Finance Ministry to an increase of 5 percent on ticket prices for the Thong Nhat passenger train No.TN12. It was also preparing to increase ticket prices by 25 percent for high quality passenger trains.

The Hanoi Transport Association met on March 3 with transport companies, to discuss increasing of fees. At the meeting, Bui Danh Lien, chairman of the association said that transport companies had pledged to increase fees by 10-15 percent on all long routes.

The new fees are expected to take effect in April or May.

The taxi companies also will increase taxi fares soon. The rate of increase is expected to increase by VND1, 000 per meter.
