The People’s Committee of the central province of Thua Thien-Hue handed over to the Foreign Ministry a set of documents July 29, related to Vietnam’s sovereignty over the Paracel (Hoang Sa) archipelago.

The set of documents comprises 10 pages, including six in French and four in Vietnamese, issued by the Construction Office of the government of South Vietnam before 1975.
These documents mention issues related to the Hoang Sa in the 1897-1970 period, including the repair of the Hoang Sa Meteorological Service.
Before the hand-over, the documents had been kept at the Province’s Records and Archive Sub-department.
The provincial People’s Committee conferred a Certificate of Merit onto Nguyen Tat Thang, head of the Sub-department, for his good performance in finding and keeping the documents.
It is the third time that the province has passed to the ministry materials related to the execution of Vietnam’s sovereignty rights over the Hoang Sa.
