25-year-old Nguyen Chuong Dai, 33-year-old Hoang Van Tham and 37-year-old Ly Dinh Vu were arrested for violating environmental law.
According to police’s document, Vu alleged to have hired Tham and Dai to dispose of waste from a ceramics and tiles factory in Phu Tho to dump it to the area in Quyet Tien village in Phuc Tien Ward in Ky Son District of Hoa Binh Province where Da River runs through, causing tap water supplied by the Song Da Water Investment JSC (Viwasupco) being polluted. Viwasupco is the supplier of tap water for several districts in the western part of Hanoi.
At a press conference held by the Hanoi administration two days ago to give updates on the tap water quality in the affected areas, chief of the Hanoi People’s Committee Office Vu Dang Dinh said that health officials had been collecting water samples from the Da River, the Viwasupco water treatment plant, its storage tanks, as well as residential areas in eight Hanoi districts where tap water is sourced from the Viwasupco plant for testing.
Results of the tests have showed that samples met Ministry of Health standards, Dinh said. As of today, clean water sourced from the Da River is safe for residents to use in daily activities, even for cooking and drinking.
