The Department of Transport of Ho Chi Minh City held a ceremony on December 25 to inaugurate two sections of the Rach Chiec Bridge and to begin construction on the third phase.

Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai, Deputy Chairman of the city’s People Committee Nguyen Thanh Tai and many representatives from the Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Construction attended the ceremony.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Deputy PM Hai emphasised the significance of the Rach Chiec Bridge which would help ease traffic congestion in the city especially during the forthcoming Lunar New Year.
The two completed sections of the bridge are each 9.8 meters wide and include two lanes.
The third section when complete will be 26.5 meters wide with six lanes.
On the same day, the fourth and final section of the Thu Thiem Tunnel was also inaugurated. The tunnel will connect District 1 in Ho Chi Minh City with the Thu Thiem area in District 2. It has been designed to ease future traffic congestion within the city.
