Myanmar earthquake causes tremors in Hanoi

One resident living in an apartment in Nhan Hoa – Nhan Chính said that many people felt slightly dizzy and many said that they saw furniture move and their houses sway.

Some people living on higher floors did not dare to take the elevator but ran down the stairs out into their courtyards. The tremors created chaos and panic, but no serious damage was reported.

Earlier on the same day, an earthquake of magnitude 7.0 hit eastern Myanmar near the border of Thailand and Laos. People living in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Nan cities felt their houses shake, as reported by Bangkok Post.

Some buildings have collapsed but no deaths have been reported.

According to the Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Centre of Vietnam Institute of Geophysics, the earthquake in Myanmar caused tremors in Hanoi of 4-5 level magnitude. Provinces near the north western border of Laos suffered tremors of up to 5-6 level magnitude.
