The ministry of transport plans to send a request to the government to change working hours of state agencies, in order to ease the traffic congestion in Hanoi City, particularly during rush hours.

Dinh La Thang, Minister of Transport said at a meeting with Hanoi leaders on October 17 that his ministry plans to send such a request to the government.

Nguyen Quoc Hung, director of the Department of Transport in Hanoi claimed that bus services only meet 10 percent of the transport demand in the capital.

Every year during the month of August, buses return to the bus station about 10 minutes late and every September there is a 30-40 minutes delay owing to traffic jams during rush hours.

On an average, Hanoi Transport Corporation carries 1,152 passengers per day.

Most of the participants at the meeting agreed that the ministry must continue to invest in developing public bus transportation and improving traffic infrastructure while enhancing the quality of the bus service.

The ministry asked the Hanoi leaders to consider banning private vehicular transport on some university routes during rush hours and give priority for buses to ply during that duration.
