Cai luong (southern folk opera) meritorious artist Thoai My will celebrate 20 years of singing by performing a live cai luong show at the Lan Anh Music Venue in Ho Chi Minh City on June 25.

Thoai My, one of the big names in cai luong, will share the stage with other famous advocates of the art like Bach Tuyet, Minh Vuong, Huong Lan, Vu Linh, Kim Tu Long, Hoai Linh, Thoai Mieu, Bao Chung, etc and singers Phuong Thanh, Khanh Ngoc, Minh Thuan and others.
Directed by Hoa Ha, they will perform extracts from Phu Dong Thien Vuong (Legend of the Heavenly King of Phu Dong), Chung Vo Diem (The Mark Of Triumph), Duong Quy Phi (Legend of Lady Yang) and others.
Thoai My was introduced to cai luong at a very early age and has received awards in several national contests.
She is well known for her parts in plays such as Bach Hai Duong bandit, Luong Son Ba – Chuc Anh Dai, Rong Phuong (Dragon and phoenix), Duyen kiep (destiny) and so on.
According to the cai luong star, her key aim is to keep the tradition of cai luong alive in the community and foster a love of the southern folk opera among the south’s young people who are interested plays and play-acting.
After the show, Thoai My will release two CDs featuring cai luong songs and will visit disadvantaged and Agent Orange children at the Hoa Binh (Peace) village of the Tu Du hospital. She will also tour the central and southern regions to give gifts to the poor.
Thoai My expects that cai luong artists will join hands with each other to establish a charity fund and organize fund-raising concerts for the poor.
The concert has been organized by the Tran Huu Trang Cai Luong Theater, who will hold several other shows in the future for other meritorious artists including Vu Linh, Kim Tu Long, Cam Tien, Thoai Mieu and so on who have made outstanding contributions to the development of the Tran Huu Trang stage, according to the theater’s leaders.
