Mekong Delta to have six new universities

The Prime Minister has given the nod to the Ministry of Education and Training to establish six new universities in the Mekong Delta.

Two of the universities will be State-owned such as the Can Tho University of Technology and the Vinh Long University of Technical Education. Whereas others will be private universities such as the Long An Mekong University, Can Tho University of Economy and Technology, Mekong Delta University, Ben Tre University of Economy and Maritime Technology, besides also the Chau Doc College in An Giang Province.

The Ministry of Education has also completed a project plan to upgrade Ben Tre College into Ben Tre University and set up Bac Lieu University of Economy and Technology and Ca Mau College.

On the other hand, a branch of Nha Trang University will operate in Kien Giang Province and another branch of Binh Duong University will function in Ca Mau Province in the near future.

So far, the Mekong Delta region has 19 universities, 30 colleges and 62 vocational high schools.
