Hoa Hao Buddhists celebrate 73rd anniversary of Sect

Followers of Hoa Hao Buddhism held a religious ceremony to celebrate the 73rd anniversary of the Hoa Hao Sect on July 6 (Lunar May 18) at the An Hoa Temple in Phu My Town of Phu Tan District in the southern province of An Giang.

Under the direction of the Central Buddhist Shangla, Hoa Hao Buddhist monks and followers live by the motto “Live a good life, follow a good religion”. They practice a revolutionary movement “For the nation’s benefit, for the people’s benefit” and believe in “All people unifying to build a good cultural life”.

Hoa Hao Buddhist monks and followers have also  positively responded to the movement, “Study and follow the moral example of Late President Ho Chi Minh” by participating in rebuilding new rural localities, making considerable contributions towards economic, social and development tasks and maintaining peace in the province.

On July 4 and 5, government officials and authorities from the Mekong Delta province of An Giang, called on dignitaries and followers of the Hoa Hao Buddhist Sect to congratulate them on the occasion of the 73rd anniversary of the order.

The officials praised Hoa Hao Buddhist followers for fulfilling both their religious and social obligations, as well as contributing to humanitarian programs.

Also on the occasion, under the authorization of President Truong Tan Sang, leaders from An Giang Province presented the ‘Order for Great National Unity’ to Nguyen Van Ton, head of the Hoa Hao Buddhist Sect, in recognition of his contributions to rebuilding, consolidating and development of national unity.
