HCMC Vietnam Fatherland Front holds 10th congress

The Ho Chi Minh City unit of the Vietnam Fatherland Front held its 10th congress on May 15, with 420 members and invitees discussing policies for the next five years.

Delegates said in the last five-year term (2009- 2014) the VFF had successfully mobilized people to take part in social and economic campaigns like ‘All people decided to build cultural life in residential areas’, ‘For poor people’, ‘Fund for the Spratly Islands’, ‘ Vietnamese give priority to Vietnamese goods’ and others.

It had raised donations of more than 500 billion (US$24 million) for the fund for poor people and used it to build nearly 6,000 houses and repair over 5,000 others for beneficiaries of government policies and poor people, and offer 110,000 scholarships to children.

The Front also received VND 162 billion (US$7.7 million) and 523 tons of cloths and essential items from the public to support people living in disaster-hit areas.

At the meeting, the VFF said it would continue to work with local authorities and relevant agencies to promote the city’s social and economic development over the next five years.

Deputy secretary of the city Party Committee, Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, and city leaders attended the congress.
