Quang Nam People's Committee Deputy Chairman Le Tri Thanh said that the ginseng was discovered in Ngoc Linh mountain years ago yet the investment in growing and developing is not to commensurate with its potential; accordngly, its value is not as high as expected meanwhile Quang Nam considers the ginseng is a key herb for economic development.
Mr. Thanh said that last time, preservation and growing the herb gradually received more attention and growing land was expanded because locals realized that the herb could improve their living condition.
The government should pour investment capital in the hern including researches to preserve and develop genetic diversity. Additionally, making the ginseng into safe food; ensuring the development of forest for high biodiversity.
Deputy director of the Department of Science and Technology in the central highlands provicne of Kon Tum Huynh Trung Kim said that the province has taken heed to preserve and grow the herb. Moreover, the authority has had policies to give special treatment to individuals and organizations which plant and develop the ginseng. On the other hand, the provincial People's Committee has created favorite condition for enterprises and locals to implement the growing project and sresearches on the herb. Furthermore, the authority will support seedling and growing technique to households in communes Mang Ri, Ngoc Yeu, Ngoc Lay and Dak Na in Tu Mo Rong District.
Planning the growing lands of the ginseng associates with forest protection and ecological environment to improve locals' living in the growing areas. As per scheduled, the administration has developed 31,742 hectare for growing the herb plus 9,343 hectare in eight communes.
Mr. Kim also pointed out some remainings in preserving and developing the herb including unprompted development in small land and scientific and technological application in growing is neglected during the process. He is afraid of the herb will decline if preservation is not proper while exploitation and trading of the herb will make the ginseng on the brink of extinction.
Ginseng with its scientific name Panax vietnamensis Ha et Grushv was first found on Ngoc Linh Mountain in Nam Tra My District of Quang Nam province and two districts Dak Glei and Tu Mo Rong in the central highlands province of Kon Tum. Accoridngly, Nam Tra My District, Dak Glei and Tu Mo Rong are designated areas for mass development of the ginseng in the mountainous farms at 1.500m to 2,500m above sea level. The herb is one of precious ginseng which are recognized in the world.
