The ground breaking of a monument to commemorate matyrs who lost their life to protect Ho Chi Minh Route at Truong Bon hamlet of Nghe An province was inaugurated on Saturday in the mountain pass of Do Luong District, marking the 44th anniversary of the historic Truong Bon victory.

The ceremony was attended by NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung, Former Party General Secretary Le Kha Phieu,and permanent members of the Party Secretariat, provincial leaders, Vietnam Heroic Mothers, Heroes of the People’s Armed Forces and local residents.
Nearly 3,000 bombs were dropped by the US Army on the Truong Bon historical site in My Son Ward in Do Luong District between June and October of 1968, during the American War (1954-1975). It was highly dangerous then to use roads throughout Truong Bon to send soldiers from the North to the South for reinforcement.
A group of 14 members of the Volunteer Youth Force had the task of filling the bomb craters along the roads and guiding trucks across the danger zone. Early morning on October 31, 1968, these soldiers were killed in a bomb attack when they were filling the bomb craters.
The construction of Truong Bon Victory Monument is a meaningful deed showing the gratitude of the government and party and people to the martyrs of the war.
The provincial authority has approved VND175.4 billion for the construction. This amount will come from state budget and contributions of local and international organizations and individuals.
In this occasion the local government also decided to upgrade the National Highway section passing Nghe An province, costing more than VND757.7 billion. The road will help complete the road network in the province and promote socio-economic development as well as national defense.
At night of the same day, the People’s Committee in the central province of Nghe An, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee, the Ministry of Transport and Vietnam Television organized an art performance titled ‘Truong Bon, Legend and Gratitude’, which was broadcast live on VTV Channel 1.
