The rice would be soon transported to the provinces to ensure that no household goes hungry during Tet (Lunar New Year) and to provide the local farmers with seeds to plant for this year’s first rice crop.

Of the rice, 1,500 tons would be distributed to Ha Tinh and the 2,500 remaining for Binh Dinh. Both provinces were badly damaged by floods and storms in 2009.

Earlier in January this year, the PM also instructed the ministry to deliver 23,090 tons of rice from the national reserve to nine other central and northern provinces including Quang Nam, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Phu Yen, Nghe An and Quang Ngai and Thanh Hoa, Bac Kan and Lao Cai.

To date, 11 provinces national wide have received nearly 30,000 tons of rice relief for the upcoming Tet and rice planting.
