Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan said that recently the bad news on social networks caused a negative impact on the political situation, belief, public opinion and raised suspicion, panic… among the people.

This also reduces the people's confidence in the Party, the State and the regime, leads to "self-evolving", "self-transformation" process, he said.

Facing this reality, the Ministry of Information and Communication of Vietnam has continuously and effectively been intensifying exchanges and working with representatives of Facebook and Google, requesting those cyber units to fulfill the Ministry's requests in the prevention, treatment and removal of wrong information that violates the Vietnamese law on social networks.

"By the end of June, 2018, Google had blocked, removed nearly 6,700 over 7,800 video clips with reactionary contents inciting people to oppose the Party, State from YouTube ", reported Minister Truong Minh Tuan.

Furthermore, 6 YouTube channels have been permanently blocked. Facebook also blocked and removed nearly 1,000 over 5,500 links that violate the Vietnamese law as well. Facebook has so far removed 107 fake accounts, 137 defamation accounts which disseminated propaganda against the Communist Party and the State of Vietnam and removed links about Formosa as well as radical activities, he added.

Ministry of Information and Communications also revealed that in the first 6 months of 2018, the Ministry has researched and developed Code of Conduct for service providers and users of social networks in Vietnam to build a healthy social network. Accordingly, Facebook has built a separate channel to address the proposal of the Ministry of Information and Communication to prevent, deal and remove information violating the Vietnamese law on social networks. For Google, the company is also committed to compliance with the Vietnamese law and cooperation on information security and safety; cooperating with Vietnam authorities in finding out solutions to build good-content channels and publicize the channels of bad, malicious content on YouTube.

The Ministry of Information and Communications reaffirmed that it will continue to handle infringing content on Facebook and YouTube in the coming time.
