Of over 8,000 containers have been left at Cat Lai Port in Ho Chi Minh City in a few recent months, 5,200 are plastic and paper scraps as per estimation of responsible agencies.
Before, since January 1, 2018 because China issued a ban on imports of scraps plus Vietnam tightened issuance of import license of these items, the volume of plastic and paper scraps imported through the port was overloaded.
The Customs Department in HCMC petitioned city authorities on building warehouse adjacent to port to curb traffic jam. The Sai Gon New Port Corporation asked the Customs Department to allow it to move 30 or 90-day stored goods at Cat Lai Port to Tan Cang Hiep Phuoc Port, Nhon Trach Inland Container Depot (ICD), Long Binh ICD, and ICD Long Trach.
The Corporation will move stored – goods back when enterprises require as per the Customs Department’s regulation
