On the same day, a representative of EVN Telecom under the Electricity department of Vietnam (EVN) confirmed that the company is withdrawing these “primary telephone numbers” due to a mistake in issuance.

The company had issued 75 easy-to-remember telephone numbers with last numbers 99999, 88888, 66666, 6668888 to enterprises in Hanoi. The company blamed technical mistakes made by their staff.

Hai spoke with Sai Gon Giai Phong newspaper, stating that the telephone company had not yet told the ministry about its mistake. However, the company would withdraw these numbers as soon as possible.

Hai said that ministry inspectors should conduct an enquiry and penalize the company after they had verified the matter.

Many VIP subscribers of EVN Telecom were shocked at the company’s announcement to cut their telephone numbers. EVN Telecom has proposed to its customers to use other numbers instead.

The company is currently finding a solution to resolve the issue and punish those staff members responsible for causing this problem.
