Equities sink to 27-month low

Stocks on Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange dropped the fourth day to 27-month low on August 11 as investors rushed to dump shares to avert risks.

The measure of 295 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange shrank 0.39 percent, or 1.52 points, to close at 384.44 points.

Among the index members, 69 rallied, 154 retreated, while 77 remained unchanged.

Trading on the city bourse decreased by 25 percent in volume and 18 percent in value as around 20 million shares changed hands at a value of VND398 billion.

Saigon Thuong Tin Joint Stock Commercial Bank or Sacombank (STB), the fourth largest listed lender, led the list of most active shares in volume with 1.01 million shares changing hands.

Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI), the country’s largest brokerage, followed with 946,490 shares traded.

Thuan Thao Corporation (GTT) ranked third with 589,650 shares.

Biggest losers on the city bourse consisted of Cu Chi Commercial & Industrial Developing Investment Joint Stock Company (CCI), Pomina Steel Corporation (POM), Vietnam Fumigation Joint Stock Company (VFG), and Vinh Hoan Corporation (VHC). They all adjusted 5 percent to VND11,400, VND13,300, VND36,100 and VND28,500 respectively.

Ben Tre Forestry & Aquaproduct Import Export Joint Stock Company (FBT) shed 4.94 percent to VND7,700.

Do Thanh Technology Corporation (DTT) and Saigontourist Transport Corporation (STT) both eliminated 4.92 percent to VND5,800.

Viky Plastic Joint Stock Company (VKP) rebounded 6.25 percent to VND1,700.

Mekophar Chemical Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company (MKP) reclaimed 5 percent to VND42,000.

Chuong Duong Beverages Joint Stock Company (SCD) regained 4.91 percent to close at VND17,100.

The Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller in the north dumped 1.2 percent, or 0.8 points, to finish at 65.82 points. Trading volume dropped by 40 percent over the previous day as 21 million shares changed hands at a value of VND202 billion.

The UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares dipped 0.38 percent, or 0.12 points, to 31.4 points. A total of 111,890 shares changed hands at a value of VND1.01 billion as of 2:45 pm local time.
