The Vietnam Railway Corporation announced on May 17 that it would construct eight new railway bridges on the north-south railway route, starting middle of June.
The eight bridges include Cua Rao, Thanh Luyen, Loc Yen, Tan Duc, Khe Net, Do Vang, Minh Le and Ngan Son that will be complete by December 2013.
The bridges are part of a project that will enhance the capacity and safety of rail transport on the Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City route at a total investment of VND2.471 trillion (US$119.7 million).
Japan’s Official Development Aid (ODA) and the Vietnamese government reciprocal capital will fund the project.
Once complete, the bridges will improve rail safety and shorten the north-south route while increasing transport capacity.
