The Ministry of Education and Training has asked the departments of Education and Training in cities and provinces to crack down on fights among high-school students nationwide that have reached an alarming level.
The ministry asked its departments to raise students’ awareness of these wrongdoings as well as implement measures to impede violent fights among them.
The departments are required to work with police, parents associations, youth unions, and other relevant agencies in their efforts.
Measures should be effective in preventing violent fights and strict penalties should be imposed to deter them from violating regulations, said the ministry.
The ministry also inquired detailed reports of fights among students in the first semester of the academic year 2010-2011. Departments must send reports to the ministry no later than December 15.
Public concerns about students’ participation in fights have been raised recently as more fights took place. The ministry’s statistic showed that approximately 1,598 fights broke out in the country since the academic year 2009-2010. Schools have sent warning messages to 1,558 students, forced 735 students to leave schools in a short time.
