The Ministry of Health suggests parents bring their children into clinics for immediate vaccinations instead of waiting for a scheduled appointment.
There has been a large amount of measles infections, said Dr. Tran Dac Phu, chair of Department of Preventive Medicine. In 2013, about 1,000 cases of measles were reported in the country. In the first two months of 2014, there were 993 cases in 24 provinces.
Most are in the northern provinces of Lai Chau, Son La, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and some other provinces along the North – South route, said Dr. Phu. Patients are children below the age of ten who have yet to receive vaccinations.
Professor Nguyen Thanh Long, Deputy Health Minister, proposed to administer vaccinations against measles for children ages nine months to two years old.
