Almost 5,000 people joined a tsunami rehearsal in the central coastal city of Danang Tuesday that was considered the biggest of its kinds ever in Vietnam.
The event took place under rain in Son Tra District. The participants included national-level agencies, the flood and storm preparedness committees in 15 coastal provinces, the navy, police, marine police, fire police, border protecting forces, oil spill response workers, and local students, teachers and residents.

Deployed in the major rehearsal were two helicopters, seven naval ships, 45 boats, 12 canoes, 92 specialized vehicles like fire trucks, ambulances, communicating vehicles, crane trucks, and more than 100 motorcycles.
The rehearsal tested tsunami warning first, followed by alarming. Other activities included evacuation, rescue works, first aids, carrying victims to hospitals with ambulances.

During the rehearsal, local officials also worked to raise public awareness of tsunami and tell them how to escape the disaster.
Danang was selected as the country’s first locality to conduct a large-scale tsunami rehearsal and rescue works.
In May, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai presided over a test of a tsunami warning system just completed in the central coastal city.
