The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has announced that the ‘World Cleanup 2012’ campaign with the message ‘Our Lives-Our Planet-Our Responsibility’ will be launched globally in a series of cleanups that will touch all continents and bring together millions of people on September 14-16.

In Vietnam, the event will take place in a park along the Han Riverside in Da Nang City on September 15.

Local residents will participate in activities designed for the campaign such as planting trees, waste recycling, green consumption, seminar on new energy investment and building a green economy in Vietnam.

‘Clean up the World’ started as a community activity in 1993 after ‘Clean Up Australia’ founders, Ian Kiernan and Kim McKay, approached the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), with the idea of taking the Clean Up Australia concept globally. The resulting partnership now mobilizes an estimated 35 million volunteers from 120 countries annually, making it one of the largest community-based environmental campaigns in the world. Vietnam has participated since 1994. (Internet)
