The National Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs (COVA) in HCMC yesterday celebrated the 35th anniversary ceremony of its establishment (June 8th, 1981- 2016).
Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Tat Thanh Cang, Vice standing chairman of the National Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs (COVA)- Foreign Affairs Ministry Dang The Hung, Deputy Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Le Thanh Liem and Chairman of the National Fatherland Front Committee in Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Hoang Nang attended the ceremony.
Chairman of COVA Pham Van Hai spoke at the meeting that Vietnamese people living abroad is always considered as an integral parts of the country. In the previous years, COVA in HCMC has tried its best in implementation of foreign affairs policies, guidelines and resolutions of Party and State on overseas Vietnamese communities, connection between the Vietnamese live inside and outside of the country as well as providing quickly and exactly information, hot news, events in home to overseas Vietnamese.
Besides, COVA in HCMC in collaboration with functional agencies of impost, customs, justice and entrance organized many meetings and direct dialogues linking Vietnamese businesses and overseas.
During 12 past years, the number of overseas Vietnamese returning home increased at 10- 15 percent a year. The remittances to Ho Chi Minh City accounted 50 percent in comparison with the country.
On behalf of the city leaders, Deputy Chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee Le Thanh Liem proposed COVA in HCMC to continue supporting and joining hand with the HCMC People’s Committee in adjustment and proposition of solutions, policies, building solidarity and international irrigation towards the country.
On the occasion, the HCMC Party Committee granted the certificates of merit to the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs in HCMC, Foreign Affairs Ministry and the HCMC People’s Committee.
