According to witnesses, the 10,000 ton Fortune Freighter was traveling underneath Phu My Bridge towards Saigon Port at that time, when it was suddenly crashed into a barge.

After that, it continued on hitting and sinking another barge carrying 300 tons of rice from the Mekong Delta Province of Vinh Long, which was anchoring nearby.

The Freighter then collided with a third barge, leaving it with holes, and other seven barges that were severely damaged.

The Department of Natural Resources and Environment has asked a private company to collect any oil leaks that may have occurred because of the collision.
