Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City inaugurated its wastewater treatment plant with a capacity to treat and filter 4,000 cubic metres of wastewater per day, on March 11.

The Ministry of Health helped finance the plant which cost VND90 billion (US$4.2 million), with Cho Ray Hospital being the one of the first hospitals to build a wastewater treatment system.

The plant will be using the Anaerobic/Anoxic Oxic Process (AAO) Technology, which treats organic pollutants using microorganisms, ensuring effective low cost treatment.

The hospital receives an average of 2,700 inpatients and 4,000 outpatients per day. Therefore, the wastewater treatment system is very important for the hospital to protect environment as well as to avoid spread of infection.

On the same day, the Vietnam Bank for Industry and Trade (VietinBank) offered five cars, worth VND5 billion ($238,000) to five hospitals including Gia Dinh People’s Hospital; Oncology Hospital; Children Hospital No.1; Tooth Honorary Surface Hospital; and the representative office of the Ministry of Health in Ho Chi Minh City.
