Central Vietnam prepares to face onslaught of Storm ‘Wutip’

Residents along coastal and mountainous regions should be evacuated to another place and boat owners not be allowed to set out to sea on September 30.

Local authorities in mountainous districts have to take precaution against flash floods and landslides and accordingly evacuate people from danger zones.

Cao Duc Phat, Head of the Central Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control, has asked the Vietnam Electricity Corporation to be aware of reservoirs and hydroelectricity dams in Central Vietnam which are full of water.

The electricity company must not discharge water at this time. In case they are compelled to discharge water from reservoirs, the company has to inform the local authority so that people can be moved to safer shelters.

Storm ‘Wutip’ was located 200km east-southeast of coastal areas in Quang Binh and Thua Thien-Hue Provinces, packing winds of 134-166kph (level 13-14) in the center, according to the National Hydro Meteorological Forecasting Center.

Central coastal regions from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai Provinces will experience rough seas and strong winds with gusts of level 16-17. High waves and tides will be seen on coastal regions from Nghe An to Da Nang Provinces.
