The Prime Minister has signed the decision to set up Bien Hoa forensic psychiatric institute (Bien Hoa Institute) under the control of the Ministry of Health.
Bien Hoa Institute, a branch of the Hanoi-based central psychiatric institute, locates in Bien Hoa town of the southern province of Dong Nai.
The Ministry of Health said that lately, more civil, administrative and criminal cases need forensic psychological and neuropsychological evaluation and assessment. Judicial system reform requests to increase the capability of assessment units including mental forensic examination.
Demand of mental forensic examination in 32 provinces especially from the central city of Da Nang to the Southern provinces of Vietnam is two times higher than the rest in the North Vietnam.
The rate of civil and criminal cases in the South which need mental forensic examination accounts for over 70 percent of the whole country. More people in the South are forced to stay in forensic psychiatric hospitals with 70 percent of the whole country’s cases.
