Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province has  evaluated damages to people living near Thi Vai River caused by Taiwanese MSG maker Vedan at VND191 billion.

Inspectors had found more than 1,100 households were affected when Vedan illegally discharged untreated wastewater in 2008, Nguyen Van Thong, chairman of the province’s Farmers Association, said on March 5.

On the same day, Nguyen Van Phung, chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Council, said Can Gio District is currently reevaluating the environmental damage caused by Vedan at Thanh An Commune.

The result would be announced next week, he said.
