Antibiotic resistance is also a huge economic burden for health care and society at large costing around $100 billion and 24 million people will fall in poverty by 2030.
Dr. Kidong Park said that use of antibiotic in Vietnam is alarming as the Southeast Asian country ranks 11th amongst nations with high rate of using antibiotic. To slow resistance, we need to cut the use of unnecessary antibiotics, he added.
The Health Ministry’s Medical Services Administration Director Luong Ngoc Khue pointed out though the proportion of physicians prescribing antibiotic is reduced, drug stores still sell antibiotic rampantly to customers. Subsequently, overuse of antibiotic is still popular causing serious consequences.
