The golf course Montgomerie Links Vietnam in Quang Nam Province will host the second annual Terry Fox Run on Sunday, Mar. 21, with all proceeds going to cancer research in the country.
Last year’s inaugural event in the central coastal province, also hosted by Montgomerie Links and supported by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, attracted 1,500 participants and raised more than VND70 million. This year’s event is expected to draw 2,000 runners and generate over VND100 million, according to the organizers.
Vietnam Golf Magazine has recently named Montgomerie Links the country’s best new golf course. The facility is to hold its official grand opening ceremony on April 19, the highlight of which is to be a visit by its designer Colin Montgomerie.
Terry Fox was a Canadian humanitarian, athlete, and cancer treatment activist who died in 1981 following a four-year battle with osteosarcoma. The Government of Canada made him the youngest person ever to be named a Companion of the Order of Canada for his efforts.
Terry Fox Run is also organized annually in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
