About 1,800 the Republic of Korea (RoK) businesses have well performed in Ho Chi Minh City contributing to the city’s development and intensifying Vietnam-Rok cooperation relations, said HCMC People’s Committee Chairman Le Hoang Quan on Wednesday.

He was speaking while receiving former South Korean President Lee Myung Bak who led a Korean business delegation to visit the city.

Economic cooperation is one of important mainstays in the VN-Rok comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership bringing practical benefits to both sides, the chairman said.

Bilateral trade turnover reached US$2.1 billion for the last nine months, he added.

Mr. Quan hoped that the former president with his prestige and influence will continue assisting RoK businesses to boost investment in Vietnam as well as HCMC and imports from the country especially agricultural and seafood products.

Mr. Lee expressed gladness to see the development of Vietnam in general and HCMC in particular for the last years, which Korean firms have a part in.

He pledged to continue supporting Korean firms to invest in Vietnam and encouraging them to import Vietnamese farm produce.

Former president Lee believed the VN-Rok Free Trade Agreement will further bolster their economic and commercial relations and strategic partnership.
