Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has signed an instruction on preparing for the millennial anniversary of Thang Long, the capital city known today as Ha Noi.
“This anniversary is a great event in the country’s history. It shows deep gratitude for our elders who built and protected the country and will contribute to educating the youth about the nation’s historical and revolutionary traditions,” the PM said.
The prime ministerial instruction asks the Ha Noi People’s Committee to build and complete the main works needed for the major event, like the Nhat Tan Bridge, Co Loa project, and the renovation of the National Museum of History.
“We have to try to build a civilized and elegant capital that conserves the national character,” the PM added.
Ha Noi should also complete the required procedures for UNESCO to recognize the historical vestige of Thang Long Citadel as a world cultural heritage.
The PM has asked HCMC and the provinces of Hue, Bac Ninh, Ninh Binh and Phu Tho to coordinate with the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism and the Ha Noi People’s Committee to make specific plans to observe and celebrate the anniversary.
